What is the function of a shortpass filter? A shortpass filter allows shorter wavelengths of light to pass through while blocking longer wavelengths. The filter is designed to transmit light that is below a specific wavelength cutoff, known as the filter’s “cutoff wavelength,” and to reflect or absorb light that is above this wavelength. Where is a shortpass filter used? In practical applications,  shortpass filters can be used to remove unwanted longer wavelength light from a light source or to separate different wavelengths of light.
